I'm trying to put together a mix cd of cover songs. Not sure yet if I'm going to use it as my Christmas/New Year gift cd or if I'll use it as my Sid's Place jukebox cd (Sid's has the greatest jukebox on the southside and since I work there, I get to put a cd in it). I've come up with the following list. It's just a very rough first draft that's in no particular order. I'm looking for input, and I'd appreciate any song recommendations that I may have missed. Thanks!
Take a Look at Me Now - Postal Service
32 Flavors - Alana Davis
In Between Days - Ben Folds
Tyrone - My Morning Jacket
Easy - Faith No More
Dear God - Sarah Mclachlan
Landslide - Smashing Pumpkins
Hurt - Johnny Cash
American Woman - Lenny Kravitz
It's My Life - No Doubt
The Man Who Sold the World - Nirvana
Tainted Love - Soft Cell
Smokin in the Boys Room - Motley Crue
Nothing Compares to You - Sinead O'Connor
Since You've Been Gone - Ted Leo
Fell In Love With a Boy - Joss Stone
I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself - The White Stripes
Sweet Jane - Cowboy Junkies
Just Can't Get Enough - Nouvelle Vague
Rocket Man - Kate Bush
Hallelujah - Jeff Buckley
Your Love - Midtown

I would add a New Pornographers or Jets To Brazil track....but, can I get a copy of the CD?
Thanks for the recommendations. You absolutely can get a copy. I forgot to add Real Love - Mike Doughty to the list. I love Mary J., but Mike's version is simply fantastic.
There is also Mike's cover of "the gambler." I'm just trying to remember what Jets or the new pornographers covered. I might have made that part up on accident.
It wasn't an accident. You just like to make stuff up. Go on, admit it.
Me? Never...
Have I mentioned your my favorite blogger?
No. I'm touched. And not in a creepy way. Thanks! I should also mention that I'm a bit drunk.
I'm glad you're not creeped out-and jealous that you drunk-but I have to confess: while you are indeed on of my favorite bloggers, my comment was a lame set up for a continuation of "making stuff up."
I only make up half of what I write.
I think it might be more than half, mister. :) Oh, and I was more than a little bit drunk last night. I alternately love/hate that so many of my friends are bartenders.
I like Cash's 'Personal Jesus' better than Hurt. But I've got one that has come up while on shuffle lately, Black Sabbath's Supernaut as done by 1,000 Homo Dj's. Or maybe Barry White's version of Just The way You Are? The Clash's version of Time Is Tight or Brand New Cadillac. Candi Stanton's Suspicious Minds. I like Elvis doing Fever as well.
The other day I was thinking about the good and sometimes really bad rock groups that have covered rap songs. It's a small list.
Damn you even linked me! Cool.
...another, Montefiori Cocktail has a version of Gnarls Barkey's Crazy that I absolutely adore.
I'll retun the favor!
adam
Thanks! I'll check those out.
