The Best I've Got

I've never been a typical geek. My geek flag flew quietly, but it was still flying.

As a child:

  • I watched Dr. Who with my grandmother every Sunday.
  • I listened to news radio with her as well. I've written about this at length (on the myspace blog).
  • I was taken to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra innumerable times by my aunt and enjoyed it every time.
  • My all-time favorite outfit was an Alf t-shirt, a purple leather wrap belt, tapered stonewash jeans, and white keds.
  • I owned, wore, and loved my silver cowboy boots.
  • I thought Nair was "hairspray remover." I used it as such with disastrous results.
  • When I was nine, I got my first real haircut. It was a mullet.
  • I played with Barbies until I was thirteen.
  • I was on my grammar school bowling team.
  • I was obsessed with Greek/Roman mythology and fairy tales. I read everything involving those two topics that I could get my hands on.

As a teenager:

  • My fifteenth birthday party was Jurassic Park themed.
  • I attended SummerSlam 1994.
  • I was obsessed with anything Winnie the Pooh.
  • I was in the honors program my freshman year.
  • I had a collection of Disney snowglobes.
  • I watched Star Trek: The Next Generation EVERY DAY before dinner and stayed up late on Sunday to watch it yet again. I loved Jean-Luc Picard, and I'm not ashamed to admit it.
  • I was addicted to computer Tetris.
  • I had to wear a uniform to high school. I hated wearing socks, so I wore tights every day under my (wool) skirt - even when it was really hot outside.
  • I worked in this library for years. I loved it. I also worked in the Loyola Medical School Library.

As an adult:

  • I get super excited when I meet someone who knows what a user-interface designer is.
  • I'm working on my degree in Computing with an emphasis on Human Computer Interaction.
  • I own entirely too many web design and project management books, and I want more.
  • I still read Dean Koontz novels.
  • Bowling is one of my favorite hobbies.
  • I LOVE Genesis and Phil Collins.
  • I once wrote and delivered a 10-minute speech about treehouses. In college.
  • I loved The WB.
  • I fully intend to attend HallowCon one day.
  • I am a freakishly good speller and always have been.
  • I am extraordinarily clumsy. I fall up and down stairs all the time.
  • I just spent over an hour typing this up in order to convince people that I'm a geek.

I wore tights to school every day my junior year, but only because I was having a competition with another girl who can go the longest without shaving their legs. It got nasty.

This post is making me nervous. I need time to write a real response.

I warned you that I'd put up a fight before I surrendered. :)

This was not a fight. This was like Mutually Assured Geek Destruction.

In my response, I may even have to...call for a draw.

Damn.

Holy crap. We have way too much in common.

I can't believe you exposed all these shocking truths ... and I also can't believe how much you resemble all my ex-girlfriends.

Well, it was a challenge. I had to give it my best!
